Wow! You need to really focus. There is so much competition. There are a zillion small software packages, how will you be different? I'd say that a small business needs can be met by excel for accounting, but then for other business needs it comes down to a specific industry. If you want to niche yourself, then what business do you know? How can you improve the process of doing business by implementing the latest technology? technology for technology's sake will not push out an existing package. Where and how does this technology enable the business.

There are many many gaps that need addressing, but without knowing more about your technology, it is impossible to say how the value is to be added.

Start with the pain...what pain are you curing? When you can answer that question, the software you should develop will become obvious.

Look at QuickBooks, that is the basic model for most small businesses. Accountants tend to have problems with the lack of controls in QB but that is really the reason non-accountants find it so easy to use.

If you are developing a small business software try and focus on a specific industry (i.e. auto parts store, floor covering store, etc...) this will limit your sales base but the niche could make you more competitive with larger software developers.

Have you tried being in contact with the coaches of the schools you are interested in? They have a limited budget for athletic scholarships given to them by the school itself. In addition, you should register for the NCAA database right now. I will include the NCAA website and some other places you would be interested in.

It is easier for a woman than a man in college.
It is not easy for either.
You must be very good and also have good grades.

Knowing how you have set-up your chart of accounts would be helpful. But here are some possibilities:

If you are using classes to separate your business and personal expenses code the interest to an expense account, "Interest", and the business class.

Without classes, you probably want to set-up an expense account, "Interest-business" and code the payment there, instead. This will keep your deductible interest separate from mortgage or persoanl interest and ease the preparation of your tax return.

Either way, the interest would be reported on Schedule C, Interest expense.

the college reimburses the extra money back to you in a check (or our school has a direct deposit program set up with our banks) Whoooo-hoooo! that's such a great feeling to get so much back! Congratulations! I would save most of it for future uses such as school, apartments, or to get a head start in repaying back student loans if you have any.

Good luck in school! :-)

Usually you will receive a check for whatever is no used in order to help with living expenses. If the amount of your scholarships exceeds the cost of attendance, then you will not get all of the money remaining. However, if cost of attendance for your school is 40000, and you have 35000 in scholarships, loans, grants, etc, then the amount that covers your tuition and books will be deducted, and the rest sent to you. The cost of attendance takes into account your living expenses, gas, utilities, etc for a year. Hope this helps!
